The Gilgit-Hunza road is one of the more reliable routes in Gilgit-Baltistan, covering approximately 100 km along the Karakoram Highway and taking 2.5-3 hours to Karimabad, Hunza's main town. The route passes scenic stretches along the Hunza River, with Rakaposhi visible for much of the drive. While generally well-maintained, this road does experience occasional landslides, especially around the Attabad Lake tunnels during heavy rain. Regular vans and private taxis operate this route daily, making it one of the more accessible drives in the region for tourists heading to Karimabad, Attabad Lake, and Passu.
